Confidentiality and GDPR

Confidentiality

All client information is confidential except in emergencies or in circumstances relating to the Children's First Act 2015. I will explain this more fully in the first session, specifically how it pertains to retrospective disclosures of abuse.
If I believe you are at serious risk of suicide or of grievously harming yourself or another person your confidentiality may be extended. Depending on circumstances your emergency contact person, GP or relevant authorities may be contacted. Where possible I will do this through discussion with you, and with your full knowledge. Please note that disclosing suicidal thoughts is not an automatic trigger for an extension of confidentiality.
You may request your client notes at any time. No one will have access to these except for me, and will not be shared without your consent, unless I am legally obligated as described above, or if subpoenaed by a Court of law.
I do not provide court or medical reports.
I meet with a supervisor to discuss my work with clients. Your name is never disclosed. My relationship with my supervisor is bound by the same confidentiality stipulations as this agreement.

Data Protection and Privacy Notice

In line with the General Data Protection Regulation, I will only store information that is relevant to the service I provide for as long as needed for the purposes for which it was collected. Currently the Irish Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists recommend a period of 7 years, therefore your data will be destroyed 7 years after finishing therapy.
Your personal data and client notes will be stored using Proton Drive, an encrypted cloud-based data storage service. They will be stored in two separate encrypted documents, and client notes will be anonymised.
A record of sessions attended and fees paid will be included with your personal data.
Any correspondence through email is stored within a secure Proton Mail account, and is accessed through a phone and laptop which are both password protected.
